Ekué G. Pierre Kpodar is an economist specialized in macroeconomics, finance, and development economics. He is also an Independent Certified Coach, Teacher, and Speaker from the John Maxwell Group. Ekué has devoted his 35-year career to macroeconomics, international banking, bank supervision, finance, public policy design and implementation in Africa. He has helped countries achieve and maintain economic stability, develop financial systems, create an environment conducive to private sector development, and attain higher and inclusive growth while strengthening the capacities and the potential for Africa’s future growth.
Prior to working at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., Ekué was based in Dakar, Senegal, for 14 years where he served in several leadership positions at the regional Central Bank of West African States (Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO). His career was focused on Africa’s monetary and financial development, growth, and stability.
Ekué’s experience with the BCEAO led him to the next phase of his career with the International Monetary Fund. There, he worked in international economics and finance for 21 years. The positions he held at the IMF started with economist, then senior economist, followed by Mission Chief and Deputy Division Chief in the African Department and the Policy Development and Review Department. Also, he served as the IMF Resident Representative in Cameroon, from August 2009 to August 2012.
Ekué received a Master degree in Management from the University of Lomé (Togo) and an advanced degree in Banking and Finance from the West African Center for Studies in Banking (COFEB), in Dakar, Senegal. Additionally, he obtained an advanced degree in Macroeconomics and Development Economics from the University Cheik Anta Diop in Dakar. Ekué reinforced his academic studies with certifications and professional training in financial policy and programming at the IMF Institute in Washington D.C., and on monetary policy design and implementation at the Bank of France in Paris. Also, he attended training at the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris, France
Helping in building capacity in Africa, Ekué taught at the COFEB and at the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) in Lagos, Nigeria.
Extensive and in-depth engagement in the world of African Finance and Development is indicative of Ekue’s ongoing commitment to a sustainable future for his motherland and its diverse population and cultures. His volunteer service includes roles of leadership as the former President of the Association of Sub-Saharan Africans at the IMF and the former Treasurer of the Diplomatic Circle of Yaoundé, Cameroon. Ekué received a Department Award in 2014 by the IMF for his continued engagement with a fragile member country. He is a devoted husband and father of three sons.
